Zasuu People: Randy Green - A Passionate Advocate for the Calgary YMCA

 Image
The YMCA Strong Kids Campaign is focused on raising much needed financial support for children, teens and families who are unable to afford the full cost of participation in a YMCA program or activity.

As prospective donors we all wonder how our individual gift could ever have an impact when the needs of our community seem so great. The YMCA Strong Kids Campaign helps one person at a time, one family at a time, or one program at a time. That might mean providing the funds to:

Help a child attend day camp for the first time
Help a struggling teen find employment
Enable a child to participate in a recreation or fitness activity
Enable a struggling family to use a child care facility
Help youth gain the confidence and skills to avoid addiction, violence, and isolation

Each YMCA association offers unique programs to serve the needs of their community; each community has children, teens, and families that need your help. We encourage you to invest in a child today. No Risks. Only Returns.

Zasuu is a proud sponsor of the 2009 Strong Kids Golf Tournament, held June 25th 2009 at the Calgary Elks Lodge and Golf Club.

Zasuu People: Becky Scott

When 8-year-old Hunter Catonio found out that she was going to interview Beckie Scott, Canadian Olympian and multiple medal holder, Hunter was over the moon.

The winding roads of Canmore are home to many of Canada's athletes and the feeling of sport fills the air so much so it makes anyone with two left feet feel like taking a run. It isn't uncommon to find athletes training all year round - we passed several parents cycling with their kids in a pull pram, and many others in roller blades training for what could be Vancouver 2010.

The terrace of blue houses with the red roofs as Beckie calls it, is home to herself and her family. When we arrive, she opens the door and greets us all with a smile that could warm any Canadian winter.

Zasuu People: Shannon Smadella, Miss Canada 2009

Earlier this week we had the chance to sit down with Shannon Smadella and talk with her about her numerous achievments during her reign as Miss Canada. Shannon gave us some great insights how she's trying to make a difference through projects like the Shannon Smadella Initiative www.shannonsmadellainitiative.com and her upcoming participation in the YMCA Canada's upcoming Yoga for Peace event on November 24th.

Tell us a little bit about yourself?

I grew up in a small town in Northern Manitoba moving to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan in 1999 to pursue my education in Science and Business.  In 2000, while attending University I started running my own business, which I continued to run for seven years.  The next step in my life lead me to working in Radio and TV in Saskatoon, Calgary, Toronto and Los Angeles.  I've always had a love for acting and in 2008 moved to Los Angeles to train at New York Film Academy in Acting for film and has since starred in two feature films.  In 2008 I won the title of Miss Saskatchewan and represented Saskatchewan in the National Pageant, which I also won.  Representing Canada throughout the year was one of my best experiences.  In that time I also wrote two books, worked on three different TV shows, and toured Canada speaking to young women in schools about inner beauty and confidence.  I was not the “typical” beauty queen, and to prove a point I even wore a dress made out of burlap (potato sack) on the red carpet at the Grammy Awards!  After that I was deemed “The Burlap Beauty Queen”.  I believes that the pageant system is a great place for young women to be role modes for their peers and women all around the world.  I've been nominated as a Woman of Distinction by the YWCA in Saskatoon, and is a Celebrity Ambassador for the American Red Cross Santa Monica Chapter
